CAISI in Casey

It's been a while since the last post so this one will be filled with some words and many pictures.  We've traveled to our last teaching location and are preparing to wrap up the trip.  This of course means more upgrades, another week of teaching, a crapload of equipment to pack up and ship, and plenty of shopping in town.  Since this is our last spot and the front gate is so close compared to the other bases, it's where I've decided to get some suits and sportcoats made.  With the proximity I can walk out for fittings (or to complain!).  There are blanket shops here, purse stores, tailors everywhere, restaurants, gift shops, and more pawn shops than I'd have imagined.  But I guess when the soldiers need quick money...

Okay the fashiony part of the blog.  I decided to get a sportcoat made and if it came out well, I'd order more items.  The shop was nothing fancy, and there were fabrics hanging all over the place.  The owner was the only one so far to point out the hand stitching on his garments and at $130 for a sport coat, I figured WTH.  I picked it up today and the fit is good, though I plan to have it taken in in the back.  I've been out of the gym for a while though so that'll wait until I get back home.  I'd read online of someone getting suits made at another shop and after stopping in yesterday, I decided I'd get the rest of my things made there.  The owner was very knowledgeable, kept an immaculate shop and had the same turnaround as the other places, albeit slightly more expensive.  But after going today to get measured and having her sit down with me to talk about fabrics and the features I was looking for, it'll be money well spent.  For the price of one Brooks Brothers coat, I'll have 2 and a suit.  Oh, and she'll throw in some ties.

That's all I have off the top of my head, I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story of the last 2 weeks.

комитет государственной безопасности - Committe for State Security.  Since I'm learning Russian I had to get this shirt..

Another CBM - In the wild!

Haute couture socks

Students hard at work.  Looks like the picture for an ITT Tech commercial

Driving to Suwon.  We were pretty much driving through the rice paddies.

Filipino food from the place Gary and I went to..

Okay, this Aloe juice is like white grape juice, but with chunks of grapes inside.  That sounds weird I know, but it tasted pretty good.  American style on one side of the label, Gangnam style on the other.

Driving to one of the many camps in the area:

Suwon Air Base:

Challenge coin that uses the Assassins logo from the video game Assassin's Creed.

Helicopter coming in at Camp Humphries

Bunker at some ROK base on the way to Osan

If I went snowboarding, I'd be wearing something like this.  Fosho.

Twin Blanket shop outside Osan - good prices AND they box the stuff up for you.

Gates of Osan AB.

About $100 later, our boxes were on the way to the States.

Hanger-less view of my Comrade tshirt.

ROK soldiers going to a base.

The fabric I decided on for my sportcoat.

A shampoo, haircut, and massage - 11 dolla.  Love you long time.

Restaurant outside Camp Stanley.  Tiny kitchen, big food.

Bigass philly cheesesteak.

I had Meat Jun.  Rice, on the bottom, beef and eggs on top.  Like the Korean equivalent of a Lumberjack Slam.

Just a cup..

A park somewhere nearby..

Owner of the restaurant in said park.  Many moons ago.

Owner.

Instead of having real live construction workers flag traffic, they use robots.  This one was doing the Smooth Criminal lean.  Was going to stay and take more pictures but we had to Beat It.  *rimshot*

I didn't know I had a club in Dungducheon.

Look closely in this picture and you'll see the ROK soldiers aiming their rifles over the road we were driving on...  WTF  (upper left corner)

Psy is everywhere.

My office for the day doing upgrades.

Overlooking the Gangnam District.

I think I was in Burger King when I took this.  Also known as The BK Lounge.

Look at this grill.  Look at it!  It's a freakin tank.

Pictures of the first sportcoat.  The construction was pretty good.  I think a proper press will really make a difference.  Two button, double vent, surgeon's cuffs, ticket pocket.  Bespoke!  And yes, I guess they borrowed their shop logo from somewhere else...

Yes!

안녕히 가세요!
